Multicolored pebbles, exposed from the sandstone, lie about this image.  I had seen them before, but until this photograph, I had not seen how to photograph them.  The enveloping structure of the sandstone lying behind cups and embraces them, holding the composition within the picture's frame.  Interestingly, these pebbles are not formed by any existing river, but rather, are formed by a long ago vanished river that flowed between the sands that would become the Navajo Sandstone of today.
