At the end of the day I came upon this amazing exploded tree.  The desperation of the tree's final act is softened by the delicate shamrocks and fiddle head ferms in the foreground and the delicate evening light.  This is a horixontal version of Washington, North Fork Quinalt River.  I printed this version, since I thought it had a very different feel.  Here the violence of the act is center-stage.  It also more powerfully shows the beauty of the wood and appears more abstract in the presentation.  The lofty soaring nature of the vertical image is left behind for the more earthly experience of the tree's final moment.
