     New Photographs

I had been to this place three previous times.  I was drawn to the huge room-sized rocks that dropped off the 1000 ft cliff of Mt Mansfield.  I could never find a scene where they looked good in the dense forest.  Finally, I found this scene, taken before dawn with a 2 minute exposure.  The interplay of the trees in the foreground, the rocks behind and the wash of color filling the distance was the highlight of the trip.  Indeed, it was the only photograph I took in 3 weeks.  An ice storm earlier that year destroyed most of the forests I saw between Maine and North Carolina.
